Doyle Named MIAC Women’s Hockey Player of the Week
Gustavus Adolphus College senior forward Molly Doyle (Richfield, Minn.) has been named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Hockey Player of the Week for the week ending March 9, 2008. Doyle scored the game-winning goal at 17:14 in the third period to give Gustavus a 1-0 victory over St. Thomas in the MIAC Playoff Championship game on Wednesday night in St. Peter.
Mike Butterworth Named MIAC Men’s Soccer Athlete of the Week
Gustavus forward Mike Butterworth (Sr., Katy, Tex.) has been named the MIAC Men's Soccer Athlete of the Week as voted on by league coaches. Butterworth scored a goal in both MIAC Post-Season games this week, helping the Gusties claim their second consecutive conference tournament title and earn an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament. Butterworth scored the game-winning goal against St. Thomas with 1:20 remaining for a 2-1 victory in the semifinals.
Sowden Named MIAC Men’s Basketball Co-Player of the Week
Gustavus junior forward Phil Sowden has been named MIAC Men's Basketball Co-Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 12, 2006. Sowden averaged 20.3 points and 9.3 rebounds per game as Gustavus won three games last week and clinched a MIAC playoff berth. Sowden shares this week's award with St. Thomas guard Brian Schnettler.
Hurley Named MIAC Women’s Hockey Player of the Week
Gustavus Adolphus junior goalie Kitty Hurley has been named MIAC Women's Hockey Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 12, 2006. Hurley turned away 45 of 49 shots to help Gustavus claim a 4-1 win and a 3-3 tie against St. Thomas last weekend.
Monahan Named MIAC Co-Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Gustavus Adolphus junior post player Bri Monahan (Hutchinson, Minn.) has been named MIAC co-women's basketball player of the week for the week ending Jan. 22, 2006. Monahan averaged 28.5 points and 9.5 rebounds in road wins over Saint Benedict and Hamline last week. She shares this week's honor with Concordia's Melanie Hageman. Monahan is the second Gustie to be honored this month, following sophomore guard Jess Vadnais (Jan. 10).
Harren Named MIAC Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week
Gustavus Adolphus College junior Hailey Harren (Cold Spring, Minn.) has been named Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week by the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC). Harren won the Saint John's Invitational cross country meet in a fast 6K time of 22:07. Harren's time was over one minute better than the second-place finisher.
