Gustavus Adolphus College is set to host one of the eight NCAA Regional Tournaments for men's and women's tennis at the Brown Outdoor Tennis Complex in St. Peter. The women's tennis tournament will take place Thursday, May 7 through Saturday, May 9, while the men's tennis tournament will be held Friday, May 8 through Sunday, May 10.

Men’s Tennis Selected To Host NCAA Regional This Weekend

The Gustavus men's tennis team has been selected to host one of eight NCAA Regional Tournaments this weekend. Play will begin on Friday, May 8 with Luther (36-5) facing Concordia (Wis.) (14-10) in one of two first round matches. The University of Wisconsin at Whitewater (21-8) will face the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire (24-9) in the other first round match. On Saturday, May 9, Gustavus (25-8) will play the winner of the UW-Whitewater/UW-Eau Claire match in the second round.

Men’s Tennis Wins MIAC Playoff Championship, Earns Automatic NCAA Tournament Berth

The tenth-ranked Gustavus men's tennis team earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament after claiming the MIAC Playoff Championship on Saturday at the Brown Outdoor Tennis Courts in St. Peter. Gustavus Adolphus College plays host this weekend as the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference crowns a tournament champion in men's tennis. The host Gusties captured their 21st consecutive league title and earned the top seed in this weekend's tournament by going 9-0 in league play. The winner of this weekend's tournament receives the MIAC's automatic bid to the field of 41 teams for the 2009 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championships.

Tommy Valentini Named Head Men’s Tennis Coach

Tommy Valentini, a native of Duluth, Minn. has been named the head men's tennis coach at Gustavus Adolphus College. Valentini, who has been an assistant coach for the Gusties for the past three years, will replace Steve Wilkinson who is retiring after serving as the head coach for the past 39 years.

Men’s Tennis Splits Squad To Defeat Kalamazoo And Wartburg

The tenth-ranked Gustavus men's tennis team posted a pair of wins over 21st-ranked Kalamazoo College 8-1 and Wartburg College 6-3 with split squads. The Gusties, who had not played a match in 10 days, faced Kalamazoo in Milwaukee, Wis. and Wartburg in Waverly, Iowa. Both wins improved Gustavus' overall record to 21-8 for the program's 15th consecutive 20-win season.
