Men’s Hockey Looks To Move Deeper In Post-Season In 2008-09

The 2008-09 Gustavus men's hockey team looks to use the experience gained from last season's fourth place league finish and strong off-ice leadership to qualify for its ninth consecutive MIAC Post-Season Tournament and advance deeper in post-season play. Coach Petersen will count on junior captains Cody Mosbeck (Jr, Emo, Ontario), David Martinson (Jr., St. Louis Park, Minn.), and Joe Welch (Jr., Hastings, Minn.) to lead the young team.

Men’s Hockey Falls To Saint John’s 5-3 In Quarterfinal Round of MIAC Tournament

The Gustavus men's hockey team saw its season come to an end with a 5-3 loss to Saint John's at Don Roberts Ice Rink in St. Peter on Thursday night. The Gusties trailed 3-2 after the first period and 4-3 after the second period before losing 5-3. David Martinson led Gustavus with two goals, while five different players scored for Saint John's. Gustavus ends its season with a record of 13-12-1.

David Martinson Named to Men’s Hockey All-Conference Team, Josh Swartout Earns All-Rookie Honors

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey coaches announced their post-season honors on Thursday and Gustavus sophomore forward David Martinson was named to the All-Conference team, while freshman goaltender Josh Swartout was named to the All-Rookie Team. Sophomore forward Patrick Dynan received honorable mention on the All-Conference squad.

Men’s Hockey Defeats Concordia 10-1, Will Host First Round Of MIAC Playoffs

The Gustavus men's hockey team exploded for six goals in the first period and rolled to a 10-1 win over Concordia on Saturday afternoon at Don Roberts Ice Rink in St. Peter, Minn. With the win, the Gusties clinched at least a tie for fourth place in the final MIAC standings and earned the #4 seed in the MIAC Post-Season Tournament. Gustavus will now host #5 seed Saint John's on Thursday, Feb. 28. Time has not yet been determined.

The Gustavus men's hockey team jumped out to a 3-1 first period lead and never looked back on its way to a 6-1 win over Concordia at Don Roberts Ice Rink on Friday night. The Gusties clinched a spot in the MIAC Playoffs with the win. Six different players scored for Gustavus, which improved to 12-11-1 on the season.

Men’s Hockey Game At Saint John’s Postponed Re-Scheduled For Sunday, Feb. 10

The Gustavus men's hockey team's scheduled game against Saint John's for Saturday, Feb. 9 in St. Cloud has been postponed due to poor driving conditions. The game will now be played on Sunday, Feb. 10 at 4:00 pm at the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud.

David Martinson's goal at 5:38 of the third period proved to be the winning goal. Josh Swartout earned the win in the nets. The Gusties improve to 10-10-1 overall and 7-5-0 in the MIAC.

The Gustavus men's hockey team stayed in the hunt for the MIAC regular season title with a 3-0 win over St. Thomas at Don Roberts Ice Rink in St. Peter on Saturday night. The Gusties led 1-0 after the first period and 3-0 after two periods. Senior captain Ben Ollila led the way for Gustavus with a goal and one assist. Gustavus is now 9-9-1 overall and 6-4-0 in the MIAC.
