Men’s Basketball Unable To Slow Down No. 19 Whitworth In 79-58 Loss

The Gustavus men's basketball suffered its third straight loss in a 79-58 decision to No. 19 Whitworth University in the final day of the Ameriprise Whitworth Classic on Monday in San Francisco, California. Sam Paulson was the only Gustie to reach double figures with 16 points followed by eight points from Jesse Van Sickle. Whitworth had four players record double-digit points, including David Riley, who tallied 24 on 9-for-12 shooting from the field.

Men’s Basketball Suffers Disappointing 102-79 Loss To University of Puget Sound

The Gustavus men's basketball team lost to the University of Puget Sound 102-79 at the Ameriprise Whitworth Classic on Sunday. The tournament is being played at Burlingame High School near San Francisco, California. Gustavus was led in scoring by Robbie Schmidt with 15 points. Mychal Crowder was the only other Gustie in double figures with a career-high 11 points.

Last Second Basket Sinks Men’s Basketball In 52-50 Loss To Augsburg

The Gustavus men's basketball team suffered its first loss in the MIAC as Jon Cassens hit a layup with :03.5 remaining to give Augsburg a 52-50 win over the Gusties on Wednesday at Gus Young Court. Gustavus had a ten-minute scoring drought in the first half as it went into halftime trailing 23-18 after shooting 7-of-29 (24.1 percent) from the floor. The Gusties dropped to 3-3 overall and 2-1 in league play, while the Auggies improved to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in the conference standings.

Bench Scoring Helps Men’s Basketball Defeat Saint Mary’s 81-62

The depth of the Gustavus men's basketball team proved to be too much for Saint Mary's as the Gustie bench outscored their counterparts 29-12 in a 81-62 victory on Monday night in Winona. Head Coach Mark Hanson's squad continued to shoot well from the field as Gustavus shot 54.8 percent on 34-of-62 shooting. Eleven different Gusties scored with Sam Paulson and Jesse Van Sickle leading the way with 19 and 18 points, respectively.

Hot Shooting Lifts Men’s Basketball Over Concordia 100-67 In MIAC Opener

The Gustavus men's basketball team shot a blazing 69 percent from behind the three-point arc on 11-of-16 shooting to defeat Concordia 100-67 in the Gusties' MIAC opener on Saturday afternoon at Gus Young Court. Gustavus seized control of the contest after a 21-5 run late in the first half for a 36-16 lead and never looked back. Robert Schmidt came off the bench to lead Gustavus with a career-high 15 points as the Gustie bench contributed 69 points in the win.

Men’s Basketball Loses 75-59 To Division II Winona State

The Gustavus Adolphus College men's basketball team shot over 50 percent from the field, but was unable to overcome 15 turnovers in a 75-59 loss to defending NCAA Division II champion Winona State University on Saturday night in Winona. The Gusties were 25-of-48 shooting for 52.1 percent compared to 50 percent shooting for the Warriors. However, Winona State scored 22 points on Gustie miscues and converted 18-of-23 at the free throw line.

Clutch free-throw shooting from Jesse Van Sickle and Mike DesLauriers late in the second half helped the Gustavus men's basketball team upset eighth-ranked Buena Vista University 62-58 on Tuesday night in St. Peter. The Gusties, who led 40-27 at halftime, saw their lead cut to two points with :10 remaining before DesLauriers sank a pair of free throws to clinch the win in Gustavus' home opener. Men’s Basketball Falls To Bethany Lutheran 77-67 In Season Opener

The Gustavus men's basketball team fell in its 2008-09 season opener 77-67 to Bethany Lutheran in Mankato, Minn. Jesse Van Sickle hit a three-point shot to pull the Gusties within six points (72-66) with 1:11 remaining in the contest, but the Vikings converted five of six free throws to seal the win. Ky Battern paced Gustavus with 13 points off the bench, while Tommy Saffert scored a game-high 21 points for Bethany Lutheran.

Men’s Basketball Set To Begin 2008-09 Season Against Bethany Lutheran

The Gustavus men's basketball team will open its 2008-09 season on the road on Tuesday with a non-conference contest against Bethany Lutheran College of Mankato, Minn. The Gusties will be led by senior Mike DesLauriers and juniors Jesse Van Sickle and Sam Paulson. The Vikings, who are 0-1 overall, are the preseason favorite in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference.
