The Gustavus baseball team started its spring break trip on the right foot with a pair of wins Saturday at the Kino Sports Complex. The Gusties defeated UW-Superior 10-4 before shutting out Grinnell 4-0 to improve to 6-3 overall.

Baseball Sweeps Northwestern-St. Paul

Wednesday’s non-conference baseball game may have felt more like a late-fall football contest with temperatures in the 30s, but Gustavus was able to warm up the bats with a doubleheader sweep over Northwestern-St. Paul. The Gusties won game one 6-4 and game two 14-10, improving to 4-3 overall, while the Eagles fall to 5-11.

Baseball Splits Doubleheader At Mount Marty

The Gustavus baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader at Mounty Marty College Sunday, losing game one 2-1 before winning game two 4-3 in 10 innings. The split moves the Gusties to 2-3 overall, while the Lancers move to 6-12.

Baseball Swept By Mayville State To Open Season

The Gustavus baseball team Wednesday dropped its season opening doubleheader against Mayville State by 6-5 and 11-3 scores to start the season 0-2. The Gusties battled back from a five-run deficit in game one to send it to extras, but were unable to hold off the Comets in the eighth frame. And in game two, Mayville State used a balanced attack of power hitting and efficient pitching for the convincing win.

Baseball Opens 2017 Season Tomorrow At US Bank Stadium

Brad Baker’s first year coaching baseball at Gustavus in over three decades (his first in 1981) proved to be fruitful last season as the Gusties posted their first winning record since 2008 and moved up three spots in the conference standings. But now it’s time to turn to page to the 2017 campaign and see what improvements can be made as Baker and his staff continue to rebuild the program into a contender in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. This season’s journey begins tomorrow with a non-conference doubleheader against Mayville State at US Bank Stadium.

Josh Chatfield Named To CoSIDA Academic All-District Baseball Team

The 2016 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Baseball Teams were released Thursday afternoon and Gustavus junior Josh Chatfield (Apple Valley, Minn.) was named to the 12-member District 6 Team, which features student-athletes from Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. The CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

Baseball Sweeps Martin Luther For Second Time This Season

The Gustavus baseball team on Monday swept Martin Luther College for the second time this season, defeating the Knights by scores of 5-2 and 9-1 to improve to 11-13 overall. Sam Archer (Fy., Zimmerman, Minn.) was the story of the day as he pitched a complete game two-hitter in the nightcap. Archer's pitching performance marked the second two-hitter by a Gustie this season.

Baseball Splits With Augsburg After Gutsy Game Two Victory

The Gustavus baseball team busted out the bats with 27 total hits Tuesday in a MIAC doubleheader against Augsburg. The Gusties lost game one 8-2, but came back to win game two 9-7, moving to 9-11 overall and 2-4 in the MIAC, while the Auggies move to 14-12 overall and 4-4 in the league.

Baseball Finishes Tucson Invite With Pair Of Wins

The Gustavus baseball team concluded its spring trip Wednesday at the Tucson Invitational with a pair of wins. The Gusties beat Williams 16-7 in the first game followed by a 5-3 victory over Middlebury to improve to 5-7 overall.

Baseball Wins And Loses On Walk-Offs Against Williams, Middlebury

The Gustavus baseball team experienced both sides of a walk-off game Monday at the Tucson Invitational, first losing 12-11 to Williams before defeating Middlebury 10-9 to move to 3-7 overall.
