The Gusties (22-5) travel to St. Paul with hopes of upending top seed St. Thomas (24-2) after losing in the conference championship game last season on the Tommies' home court. A suffocating first half defensive performance by the Gustavus women’s basketball team Tuesday set the tone as it cruised to a 65-38 win over St. Catherine in a MIAC playoff quarterfinal game. The Gusties held the Wildcats to eight points in the first quarter and just three points in the second for a total of 11 after 20 minutes of play – the fewest points allowed in any half all season long. With the win, the Gusties advance to the semifinal round Thursday night at No. 2 seed Saint Benedict.

The Gustavus women’s basketball team is back on the road Wednesday at it travels to Saint Benedict for a 7 p.m. tipoff. In a game with enormous MIAC playoff seeding implications, the Gusties enter the matchup two games behind the Blazers in the league standings. The Gusties are 19-4 overall and 13-3 in the MIAC, while the Blazers are 21-2 overall and 15-1 in the league.
