Women’s Basketball Travels to St. Olaf Saturday

SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s basketball team travels to Northfield to take on St. Olaf Saturday in a 3 p.m. contest. The Gusties enter the matchup 15-5 overall and 11-4 in the MIAC, while the Oles are 8-12 overall and 5-10 in the league.

Gustavus Game Notes

The Series: Saturday’s contest marks the 81st all-time meeting between the two teams with Gustavus holding a 56-24 edge. The Gusties have won the past 11 contests in the series, with St. Olaf’s most recent win coming on Jan. 4, 2014.

Scouting the Gusties: Gustavus comes into the contest following a 90-61 victory over Carleton Wednesday. Through 20 contests the Gusties rank third in the MIAC in scoring with 73.0 points per contest, while their 59.5 points allowed rank fifth. Caitlin Rorman continues to pace the Black and Gold offensively, shooting 62.1 percent from the field to average 16.5 points, while also averaging a team best 6.3 rebounds. Ava Gonsorowski and Paige Richert also average double figures, with marks of 12.8 and 11.4 points per game, respectively.

Scouting the Oles: St. Olaf enters the contest most recently falling to Saint Benedict 68-65 Wednesday. Through 20 games the Oles average 61.8 points while allowing 66.8, with both marks ranking ninth in the league. St. Olaf has struggled offensively turning the ball over an average of 22.8 times per contest which is the most in the conference. They make up for it though by limiting opponents to just 35.6 percent shooting from the field, which is tops in the MIAC. Rachel Kelly leads the Oles with 11.9 points per game on 53.7 percent shooting, while K’Lynn Lewis adds 10.9 points.
