Whaling Earns MIAC Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week

Patrick Whaling (Sr., Manakin Sabot, Va.) helped the Gustavus men's tennis team complete a 9-0 shutout victory over Hamline on Saturday with wins at No. 1 singles and doubles. In a matchup of top-25 ranked singles players in Division III, No. 23 Whaling upset No. 11 Jake Trondson in straight sets. For his performance, Whaling was named MIAC Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week. 

Men’s Tennis Blanks St. Olaf, Hamline

The No. 12 Gustavus men’s tennis team Saturday shut out a pair of conference opponents, improving to 8-2 overall and 4-0 in the MIAC. The Gusties started the day with a 9-0 win over St. Olaf followed by a 9-0 victory over Hamline.

Nick Aney Named MIAC Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week

Nick Aney (Fy., Rochester, Minn.) played a large part in the Gustavus men's tennis team winning the consolation title at the ITA Indoor Championships, going a combined 6-0 between singles and doubles in three matches against nationally-ranked teams. For his performance, Aney has been named MIAC Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week. 

Men’s Tennis Claims Fifth Place at ITA Indoor Championship

For the second consecutive season the Gustavus men’s tennis team captured the consolation title at the ITA Indoor Championship. The No. 8 Gusties defeated host No. 18 Case Western Reserve 5-0 on Sunday morning for fifth place. The Gusties are now 6-2 overall.

Men’s Tennis Beats Whitman 7-2 in ITA Indoor Consolation Semifinal

For the second consecutive season, the Gustavus men’s tennis team will compete for the consolation title at the ITA Indoor Championship. The No. 8 Gusties on Saturday defeated No. 13 Whitman 7-2 in the consolation semifinals, which was a rematch of last season’s NCAA region championship that Whitman won 5-4 in Saint Peter.

Men’s Tennis Drops Close 5-4 Match to Start ITA Indoor Championship

The No. 8 Gustavus men’s tennis team started the ITA Indoor Championship on Friday with an opening round 5-4 loss to No. 12 Pomona-Pitzer, dropping to 4-2 overall. The Gusties move on to the consolation semifinals where they will take on Whitman at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Men’s Tennis Wins Two in Home Opener

The Gustavus men’s tennis team completed a two-match sweep in its home opener Saturday, defeating Bethel 9-0 before beating Augustana 6-1 to improve to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the MIAC.

Men’s Tennis Tops Southeastern 8-1

After four scrimmages in Florida this week, the Gustavus men’s tennis team defeated Southeastern 8-1 on Friday. The Gusties swept doubles and won five singles matches in straight sets to improve to 2-1 on the season.

Johnson Named MIAC Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week

Chase Johnson (Sr., Golden Valley, Minn.) began the Gustavus men’s tennis team’s dual match season with a singles victory against a Division I opponent. Playing at No. 2 singles, Johnson dropped the first set, 6-1, before fighting back to win consecutive breakers 7-6, 7-6 against North Dakota.

Men’s Tennis Starts Dual Match Season With a Split

The Gustavus men’s tennis team kicked off its 2019 dual match season with a win and a loss Saturday. The Gusties lost 5-2 at Division I North Dakato before a split squad defeated Concordia 8-1 to begin MIAC play.
