Valentine Takes Eighth at ITA Cup

Gustavus women’s tennis player Ginger Valentine (So., Delano, Minn.) wrapped up the fall season Saturday by taking eighth place at the ITA Cup at Berry College. Valentine lost 6-1, 6-1 to Michelle Uyeda of Linfield College and finishes the fall season 9-3 overall.

Gustavus women’s tennis player Ginger Valentine (So., Delano, Minn.) lost Friday in the consolation draw of the ITA Cup to Risa Fukushige of Skidmore 6-0, 6-1. Valentine finishes the fall season 9-2 overall and as an All-American.

Gustavus women’s tennis player Ginger Valentine (So., Delano, Minn.) competed in the first round of the ITA Cup Thursday morning and lost to No. 4 seed Venia Yeung of Wesleyan 6-0, 6-2. Valentine, now 9-1 in singles play this season, drops into the consolation bracket and will face the loser of Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico of Emory and Risa Fukushige of Skidmore on Friday morning.

Three Gustie Tennis Players to Compete at ITA Cup

Three Gustavus tennis players are set to compete in the ITA Cup Thursday at Berry College in Rome, Ga. Women’s singles player Ginger Valentine (So., Delano, Minn.), the fifth seed, will take on No. 4 Venia Yeung of Wesleyan at 9 a.m. The men’s doubles team of Chase Johnson (Sr., Golden Valley, Minn.) and Patrick Whaling (Sr., Manikin Sabot, Va.) will take on Jordan Pitts and Wilson Lambeth of Trinity (Texas) at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Whaling, Johnson, Valentine Named September Student-Athletes of the Month

Tennis players Patrick Whaling (Sr., Manakin Sabot, Va.), Chase Johnson (Sr., Golden Valley, Minn.), and Ginger Valentine (So., Delano, Minn.) have been named Gustavus September Co-Male and Female Student-Athletes of the Month, which is voted on by the Gustavus Sports Information Department and presented by Thrivent Financial.

Valentine Wins ITA Midwest Singles Title, Becomes All-American

For the second consecutive season, the Gustavus women’s tennis team has produced the singles champion at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships. On Monday morning, Ginger Valentine (So., Delano, Minn.) defeated Ali Kopiecki of Hamline 6-0, 6-4 to earn All-America status. Valentine joins teammate Bri Hartmann as ITA Midwest Region singles champions as Hartmann achieved the feat last year. Valentine is the 42nd All-American in program history.

Women’s Tennis Advances Two Singles, One Doubles after Day Two of ITA Regional

Day two of the ITA Midwest Regional Championships wrapped up Saturday with Gustavus advancing two singles players and one doubles team to the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds, respectively. Ginger Valentine and Bri Hartmann will play in the singles quarterfinals at 9 a.m. Sunday. Valentine will face Natalie Wijesinghe of UW-Eau Claire and Hartmann will take on Grace Riermann of Bethel. The doubles team of Hartman and Lilly Hartman will take on Maggie Riermann and Grace Riermann of Bethel in the semifinals.

Five Gusties Named Women’s Tennis All-Conference, Carlson Earns Co-Coach Of The Year

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its women’s tennis postseason awards Tuesday and five Gusties were recognized as All-Conference members, while Head Coach Jon Carlson has been selected as the Co-Coach of the Year. 

Valentine Named MIAC Women’s Tennis Athlete Of The Week

Gustavus women's tennis student-athlete Ginger Valentine (Fy., Delano, Minn.) won all four of her matches last weekend in Rock Island, Ill. against Augustana College and No. 28-ranked UW-Whitewater. Valentine's singles victory in a tiebreaker was the game-winning point against UWW. The first-year competitor has won each of her last three matches in both singles and doubles action. For her performance, Valentine was named MIAC Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week.
