The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has announced the 2009 MIAC All-Tournament team and three Gustavus players have been selected for the prestigious honor. They are senior shortstop Rachael Click, senior centerfielder Emily Klein, and sophomore pitcher Erin Truebenbach. The Gusties, who are 35-7, finished second in the tournament compiling a record of 2-2 and will now play in the NCAA Tournament this weekend in Indianola, Iowa.
Gustavus Adolphus College softball player Emily Klein (Sr., Red Wing, Minn.) has been named Co-MIAC Player of the Week for her efforts in helping the Gusties post a record of 8-2 on its Spring Break trip to Tucson, Arizona last week. Klein, who hit .447 during the week, recorded at least one hit in all 10 games. She leads the team in hitting (.479), slugging percentage (.750), and on-base percentage (.519) through 14 games.
Strong defense propelled the Gustavus volleyball team past Hamline University 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-22) Saturday afternoon in St. Peter as the Golden Gusties held a 13-5 edge in blocks. Emily Klein anchored the back row defense with 28 digs as she became the sixth player in MIAC history to reach 2,000 career digs. Angela Ahrendt was a force in the middle as she compiled nine blocks and 11 kills.
Gustavus Adolphus College senior libero Emily Klein (Red Wing, Minn.) has been named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Setter/Libero of the Week for the week ending September 8, 2008. Klein was named to the Gustavus Classic All-Tournament team and helped the Gusties to 4-0 record over the weekend.
Emily Klein, a junior libero on the Gustavus Adolphus volleyball team, continues to etch her name in the Gustavus volleyball record books. The Red Wing, Minnesota native surpassed Tara Houlihan as the all-time digs leader at Gustavus with 1,320. The old mark held by Houlihan was 1,226 digs. Klein now owns every dig record in Gustavus history including the single-season record with 649 digs last season.
The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball coaches recently released their 2006 Post-Season Awards and three Gustavus players were honored for their outsanding play over the past season. Junior Andrea Kron and Jen Thelemann were named to the all-conference team, while sophomore Emily Klein was named Co-Defensive Player of the Year.
Gustavus sophomore libero Emily Klein (Red Wing, Minn.) has been named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's Setter/Libero of the Week by the MIAC volleyball coaches. Klein averaged 7.38 digs per game as the Gusties went 3-0 on the week including an important 3-2 win over #16 Carleton.
