Women’s Tennis Wins Three Dual Matches To Improve To 3-1
The Gustavus women's tennis team was busy at the Swanson Tennis Center on Saturday as the Gusties defeated Concordia 9-0, Winona State University 8-1, and Augustana (SD) 8-1. The Gusties only dropped four sets over the course of the three dual matches as their overall record improved to 3-1.
Hot Shooting Second Half Gives Women’s Basketball 76-67 Win Over Concordia
The Gustavus women's basketball team gained sole possession of third-place in the MIAC standings with a 76-67 win over Concordia at Gus Young Court on Monday night. The Gusties shot a blazing 62 percent from the field on 18-for-29 shooting, including 4-for-5 from behind the three-point arc. Gustavus moved to 15-7 overall and 14-5 in league play for third-place as Concordia dropped to 14-8 overall and 13-6 in the conference.
Trevor Wittwer’s Jumper With :07 Left Lifts Men’s Basketball Over Concordia 51-50
Senior captain Trevor Wittwer made a 15-foot turnaround jumper under heavy defensive pressure with :07 left in regulation play to help Gustavus claim an improbable 51-50 win over Concordia on Monday night in St. Peter. The Gusties who trailed 35-25 at halftime, limited the Cobbers to 15 points in the second half. Kane Sivesind and Jesse Van Sickle each scored 10 points to lead Gustavus.
Late Rally Not Enough As Women’s Basketball Loses To Concordia 64-60
Molly Mathiowetz scored eight points in a late 14-3 surge by the Gustavus women's basketball team, but still suffered a 64-60 loss to Concordia in Moorhead, Minn. on Wednesday night. The Cobbers hit a season-high eight three-pointers as they won their sixth straight contest to improve to 6-4 overall and 5-2 in the MIAC. Gustavus, which has lost four of the last five games, dropped to 5-5 overall and 4-3 in conference play.
Men’s Basketball Sees Seven Game Win Streak Come To An End With 69-57 Loss At Concordia
The Gustavus men's basketball team fell to 4-2 in the MIAC with a 69-57 loss at Concordia on Wednesday night. The Cobbers used a 11-0 run early in the second half to build a 43-33 lead with 12:37 left to play. The Gusties would get no closer than eight points the rest of the game. Trevor Wittwer led Gustavus in scoring with 13 points.
Football Team Falls to Concordia 34-24
The Gustavus football team fell to 4-5 overall and 2-5 in the MIAC with a 34-24 loss to Concordia at Lloyd Hollingsworth Field in St. Peter, Minn. on Saturday afternoon. The Gusties were not able to slow down the vaunted Cobber running game as Concordia carried 60 times for 225 yards and four touchdowns. Junior wide receiver Chad Arlt had another big day as he made 11 catches for 153 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Gusties.
Volleyball Loses Second Straight Match Falling To Concordia 3-0
The Gustavus volleyball team lost a close three-set match to Concordia Friday night 3-0. Cobber serving proved to be the difference as Concordia had eight service aces compared to one for the Golden Gusties. Bridget Burtzel (Cold Spring, Minn.) paced Gustavus with 24 digs to go along with 39 assists. Jen Thelemann led all hitters with 16 kills. Gustavus fell to 15-8 overall and 3-5 in the MIAC. Concordia clinched a MIAC playoff berth with the victory improving to 15-5 and 7-1 in the MIAC.
Women’s Soccer Falls to Concordia-Moorhead 4-2
The Gustavus women's soccer team fell to 0-2 in the MIAC with a 4-2 loss at Concordia-Moorhead on Saturday afternoon. Becca Hagen and Amy Kunkel scored in the second half for the Gusties. Ashley Ohlson made 11 saves and suffered the loss in the nets for Gustavus.
Two Quick Strikes Propel Men’s Soccer Past Concordia
Two goals in the first eight minutes powered the Gustavus men's soccer team past Concordia 2-0 Saturday afternoon. Tim Gendron (Burnsville, Minn.) and Ryan Beduhn (St. Cloud, Minn.) put the Gusties on the board as the team never looked back. Luke Strom (Plymouth, Minn.) posted his second shutout of the season.
Women’s Basketball Playoff Game Against Concordia Will Be Video Streamed Through Gustavus Website
The Gustavus women's basketball team will face Concordia in a MIAC Playoff semifinal game on Thursday night, Feb. 22 at 7:30 pm in St. Peter. Both audio and video streams of the game will be available through the Gustavus Athletics live broadcast page. The broadcasts will begin at approximately 7:20 pm and Matt Thomas will handle the play-by-play duties.
