The Gustavus baseball team opened 2005 MIAC play by sweeping Carleton College 5-0 and 12-5 in Northfield on Saturday. The sweep was highlighted by junior pitcher Josh Spitzack throwing a complete game (7 inn.) no-hitter in the Gusties 5-0 win in game one.

The Gustavus baseball team is heading to Clearwater, Florida from March 25 through 31 to take part in the Clearwater Classic spring break tournament. The Gusties will play 10 games in seven days in the Clearwater area.

Gustavus sophomore first baseman Ben Sherer has been named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year by the MIAC baseball coaches. A two-time all-conference selection, Sherer won the MIAC batting title with a .513 average.

The Gustavus baseball team will play Concordia on Friday at 3:00 pm at Sechler Park in Northfield in the first round of the MIAC tournament. The Cobbers are the #2 seed and the Gusties are the #3 seed in the four team double-elimination tournament.
