Alex Kopp Set To Represent Gustavus At NCGA Championships This Weekend

For the second consecutive season, Gustavus gymnast Alex Kopp (Jr., Wayzata, Minn.) is competing at the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) Championships. The College at Brockport: State University of New York in Brockport, N.Y. hosts this year’s national meet, which takes place Friday and Saturday. Kopp is competing in the all-around competition on Friday, and will then compete in three individual events - vault, floor, and beam - on Saturday.

Gymnastics Takes Eighth At WIAC Championships, Kopp Breaks All-Around Program Record

The Gustavus gymnastics team took eighth place at the WIAC Championships/NCGA Regional on Friday evening with a season-high score of 184.475, which is also the second highest team score in program history. The conference championship also proved to be a memorable night for the Gusties with five individual career-highs, six season-highs, and two program records.

Gymnastics Sets Two Event Records At Best Of Minnesota, Scores 184.3

The regular season for the Gustavus gymnastics team ended on a high note Saturday, as it tallied the second best team score in program history at the Best of Minnesota Meet, hosted by the University of Minnesota. The Gusties tied for third place out of four teams with a season-high score of 184.300. The host Gophers took first with a score of 196.200, while Winona State took second at 184.825, and Hamline tied the Gusties at 184.300.

The Gustavus gymnastics team competed in its final home dual meet of the season at Sponberg Gymnastics Studio on Friday night, coming away with a 183.875-181.950 loss to UW-Eau Claire. The loss drops the Gusties to 2-5 in WIAC duals, while the Blugolds improve to 3-0.

After posting steady team scores between 178-180 in its last three meets, the Gustavus gymnastics team broke out Sunday for a 183.400-181.725 victory over Hamline University, tying the third highest team score in program history. The Gusties posted season-high scores on the bars (44.875), beam (46.275) and floor (46.075) to improve to 2-4 in WIAC dual meets this season.

The Gustavus gymnastics team dropped a dual meet at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse on Friday evening by the score of 179.475-188.250. The loss drops to the Gusties to 1-4 in WIAC dual meets this season, while the Eagles improve to a league-leading 4-0.

Kopp Earns Second WIAC All-Around Athlete Of The Week Honor

Gustavus gymnast Alex Kopp (Jr., Wayzata, Minn.) has earned Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Gymnastics All-Around Athlete of the Week honors for the second time this season after posting a career-high score in a dual meet against UW-Whitewater last Saturday. Kopp led the Golden Gusties on each event, finishing with a career-high in the all-around, bars and balance beam. Kopp placed seventh on bars with a 9.125. On the balance beam, her 9.525 earned her a second-place finish on the event and the 14th-highest mark all-time for Gustavus. In the all-around, Kopp complied a 37.425, the ninth-best all-around score by a gymnast in program history.
