Alex Kopp Set To Represent Gustavus At NCGA Championships This Weekend Posted on March 17th, 2016 by

ST. PETER, Minn. – For the second consecutive season, Gustavus gymnast Alex Kopp (Jr., Wayzata, Minn.) is competing at the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) Championships. The College at Brockport: State University of New York in Brockport, N.Y. hosts this year’s national meet, which takes place Friday and Saturday. Kopp is competing in the all-around competition on Friday, and will then compete in three individual events – vault, floor, and beam – on Saturday.

Friday’s all-around competition begins at 4:10 p.m. and Kopp’s rotation is vault, bye, bars, beam, bye, and floor. She will be in rotation with UW-La Crosse. Starting at 3:10 p.m. Saturday, Kopp is in the order of bye, vault, floor, and beam.

Kopp is hoping to keep her momentum rolling after a career day at the WIAC Championships on March 4. The Providence Academy product set a program record in the all-around with a score of 38.525 (2nd/WIAC), breaking Amanda Parker’s mark set in 2004. Kopp took first on the beam with a career-high score of 9.700 and first on the floor with a career-high score of 9.775. She also set a career-high on bars with a score of 9.475. By taking first on both the beam and floor, Kopp became the first Gustie to record two event titles at the WIAC Championships.

Last season at the NCGA Championships, Kopp took 12th in the all-around (36.875) and 13th on the beam (9.025).

Team and all-around awards will be named Friday night, while Saturday awards include event finals, academic awards, athlete of the year, and coach of the year.
