Five Gusties Accepted to NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships

The participants of the 2023 NCAA Division III Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships were announced today and five Gustavus student-athletes were accepted to compete in six events.

The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its All-Region honorees on Friday and four Gustavus women were selected to the North Region Team.

A few Gustavus track & field athletes made one final push for the NCAA Outdoor Championship on Thursday at the UW-La Crosse Last Chance Meet. 

Nelson Named MIAC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year, Lund Coach of the Year

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its women’s outdoor track & field awards Thursday and it was déjà vu for Birgen Nelson and Head Coach Aaron Lund. For the second straight year, Nelson was named MIAC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year, while Lund earned his second-straight Women's Coach of the Year Award, as voted on by his peers.

Gustie Women Win Second Straight MIAC Outdoor Championship, Men Finish Eighth

The Gustie track & field teams wrapped up competition at the MIAC Outdoor Championships, with the women finishing first and the men eighth. The Gustie women collected the program's second-ever and second-straight MIAC Outdoor Championship, winning the title last season as well. The women finished with 154.5 points, followed by St. Olaf with 143 and Saint Benedict with 127.5. Saint John's won the men's competition with 216 points, 40 more than the next team.

Gusties Break Records on Day One of MIAC Outdoor Championships

The Gustavus track & field team had a strong start to the MIAC Outdoor Championships, as Annika Poe and Birgen Nelson both broke MIAC records in their events. The Gustie women sit in third after day one with 35 points while the men are in sixth with 24.

Track & Field Set to Compete at MIAC Outdoor Championships this Weekend

The Gustavus men’s and women’s track & field teams are set to compete at the MIAC Outdoor Championships this weekend at Bethel University. The multi events were completed last weekend, while the rest of the meet will take place Friday and Saturday.

Nelson Named MIAC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week

Birgen Nelson shattered the NCAA Division III 100-hurdles record in the preliminary round of the Maverick Open with an all-conditions time of 13.32. Nelson clocked a 13.62 in the finals to win the event. Nelson also set new facility and meet records in the 400-hurdles with a time of 1:00.19. That time ranks first in the MIAC and second in Division III this season.

Track & Field Gets Final Tune Up Before MIAC Meet at Maverick Open

The Gusties had a trio of event winners and set one school record in their final tune up before next weekend's MIAC Outdoor Championships. 

Nelson Shatters NCAA Record, Gusties Make Most of Maverick Open

The Gustavus track & field team competed at the MSU-Mankato Maverick Open Wednesday, and compiled a handful of record performances.
