SAINT PETER, Minn. –The Gustavus men’s and women’s track & field teams are set to compete at the MIAC Outdoor Championships this weekend at Bethel University. The multi events were completed last weekend, while the rest of the meet will take place Friday and Saturday.

The field events open the meet Friday, as the women’s javelin, men’s hammer, and men’s long jump are set to begin at 2 p.m. Track events will begin at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, with the men’s 1500-meters to lead off, followed by the women’s 15 minutes later. Saturday’s field events are set to start at 12 p.m., followed by track events beginning at 1:30 p.m.

For the Gustie women, ranked No. 10 in the latest USTFCCCA top 25 index, Birgen Nelson (Sr., Edina) is the top seed in the 100-hurdles, 400-hurdles, and 100-meter. Nelson’s 100-hurdles time of 13.32 is an NCAA Division III all-conditions record and the best time this season. Nelson’s 400-hurdles time of 1:00.19 currently sits second in DIII this season, while her 11.91 in the 100-meters is ninth.

Madi Kes (Jr., Jordan) has the 17th longest triple jump in Division III this season at 11.89 meters, while Annika Poe (Sr., Big Lake) ranks third in the country in the shot put with a school record mark of 14.74 meters.

On the men’s side, Danny Bies (So., New Hope) owns the top high jump mark in the MIAC at 1.95 meters and Josh Beiswanger (Sr., Mankato) is the top seed in the hammer throw with a mark of 57.93 meters. Matthew Skelly (Jr., Le Sueur) heads into the weekend with the sixth best 100-meter time at 10.94, while Wyatt Quiring (Sr., Fairmont) sits fifth in the 200-meter and sixth in the 400.
