Four Gusties Earn CoSIDA Academic All-District

The 2021-22 Academic All-District Men's and Women's At-Large Teams, selected by CoSIDA, were released Thursday and four Gustavus student-athletes received recognition. Men's tennis player Nick Aney (Sr., Rochester), women's swimmer Ellen Hofstede (Jr., Hopkins), gymnast Brooke Merila (Sr., St. Michael), and women's hockey player Kayla Vrieze (Sr., Eagan) all earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, recognizing the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletic competition and in the classroom. 

Hofstede Places Sixth in 100 Free at NCAA Championship, Earns All-American

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Ellen Hofstede (Jr., Hopkins) ended the season placing sixth in the nation in the 100 Free at the NCAA Championship on Saturday night. Her time of 50.57 in the event proved solid for an All-American nod. Hofstede started the day qualifying for finals in the eighth seed before her final race of the day earned her the hardware while beating her own program record previously set last season. 

Gustie Women’s Team Places 22nd in 800 Free Relay

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Gustavus women's team comprised of Ellen Hofstede (Jr., Hopkins), Marit Isaacson (Fy., Saint Paul, , Abigail Yartz (Jr., Bemidji), Lucy Peterson (So., Saint Paul) placed 22nd in the 800 Free Relay with a finals time of 7:46.91. Tufts University won the event with a time of 7:19.17. The Gusties will compete in the final day of the championships on Saturday.

Gustie Men in First, Women in Second After Day Three of MIAC Swimming and Diving Championships

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Through 27 Events in the MIAC Championship the Gustavus men's swim and dive team leads with an impressive 722 points and broke the school record in the 200 Free Relay with a time of 1:21.53. The Gustie women are in second place with 445 points while St. Catherine leads (542). 

Gustie Men in 1st, Women in 2nd After Day Two of Swimming and Diving MIAC Championships

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Gustavus swimming and diving team continued to put the pressure on in the second day of the MIAC Championships. The Gustavus men currently lead with 343 points while the women sit in second place with 250 points. St. Catherine currently holds a 24 point lead.

Swim and Dive Opens Day One of MIAC Championship

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Gustavus swimming and diving teams competed in the first night of the MIAC Swimming and Diving Championships. After the first five events the Gustie women are in third place with 64 points while St. Catherine is leading with 80 points. The Gustavus men's team is in second place (115) and three points behind Saint John's. 

Swimming Concludes MN Challenge; Diving Competes in Dodd Road Invite

The Gustavus swim team wrapped up at the University in Minnesota in the MN Challenge where they swam against a field of Division I competitors. The weekend was highlighted by Ellen Hofstede making D2 B-Cut in the 100 Free, touching the wall at 52.09. The Gusties hosted MIAC opponents for the Dodd Road Invitational as well on Saturday morning. Emily An won the 3m (11-Dives) for Gustavus with a score of 431.95.
