Men’s and Women’s Swimming Fall to MSU, Mankato in Dual Meet Season Opener

The Gustavus men's swimming team fell in its 2007-08 dual meet opener with a 111.5-127.5 loss to Minnesota State University, Mankato, while the Gustavus women's swimming team dropped its dual opener to MSU, Mankato 65-176. The meet was held on the MSU, Mankato campus Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Matt Stewart turned in the top performance of the day as he finished third in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4:29.08.

The Gustavus men's swimming and diving team will send nine competitors to the NCAA Championships which will take place this Thursday through Saturday at the University of Houston. Matt Stewart, Scott Hagemeyer, and Skylar Davis qualified automatically, while the 200 and 400 free relays also automatically qualified for the national meet.

Gustavus sophomore Matt Stewart has been named SwimmingWorldmagazine.com National Swimmer of the Week. SwimmingWorldmagazine.com takes the Division I, Division II, and Division III Swimmers of the Week chosen by Collegeswimming.com and selects one male and female Collegiate Swimmer of the Week. Stewart is the first Gustavus swimmer ever to have been selected as the National All-Division Swimmer of the Week.
