Gustavus Athletics: A Carlson Family Tradition

Picture your stereotypical college-bound high school senior. Ready for a new chapter. Excited for a new set of surroundings. And maybe most significantly, eager to put a bit of distance between themselves and their parents. Now, meet Cal and Grace Carlson. While each have strived to carve their own niche following their graduation from Saint Peter High School, the sisters are doing so close to home as student-athletes at Gustavus Adolphus College. Cal, a junior, is a member of the women’s tennis team, while Grace, a first-year, competes on the women’s swimming and diving squad. The catch? Their father, Jon Carlson, is head coach of both of those teams, and their mother, Heidi, is an assistant coach on the women’s tennis team.

Men’s Swimming & Diving Takes Fourth At MIAC Championships

The Gustavus Adolphus College men's swimming and diving team moved up one spot on the final day of the MIAC Championships at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center. After being in fifth place after yesterday's final results, the Gusties passed Carleton College today, finishing with a score of 498 compared to the Knights' 476. The University of St. Thomas earned the meet championship with a score of 932.5, while Saint John's University and St. Olaf College rounded out the top-three with 527 and 502.5 points, respectively.

Men’s Swimming & Diving In Fifth Heading Into Final Day Of MIAC Championships

The Gustavus Adolphus College men’s swimming and diving team dropped one spot to fifth place with 322 points after day two of the MIAC Championships being held in the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center. The University of St. Thomas is the two-day leader with a score of 605.5, Saint John's University sits second with a 338, St. Olaf College rounds out the top three in third with 331.5, and Carleton College sits just ahead of Gustavus in fourth with 331.

Athletic Department Hosts Special Olympics Aquatics And Basketball Competitions In February

The Gustavus Adolphus Athletic Department concluded the Special Olympics winter season by hosting back-to-back area competitions on consecutive weekends in February. On Sunday, Feb. 7, Gustavus hosted the Area 9 aquatics competition at the Vic Gustafson Pool and on Sunday, Feb. 14, it held the Area 9 basketball tournament in the Lund Center Forum.

Men’s Swim & Dive In Fourth Place After Day One At MIAC Championships

The Gustavus Adolphus College men’s swim and dive team is currently in fourth place with 147 points after day one of competition at the MIAC Championships on Thursday at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center. The Gusties trail by three points behind Carleton and three-and-a-half points behind St. Olaf, while St. Thomas leads with 283.5 points.

The Gustavus Adolphus College men's swimming and diving team fell to the University of St. Thomas 210-87 in what served as the Gusties' final dual meet of the 2015-16 season. Gustavus earned three event wins against the defending MIAC Champion Tommies.
