Softball and Baseball Doubleheaders Scheduled For Tuesday, April 1 Have Been Postponed

The Gustavus baseball doubleheader at Concordia and the softball doubleheader at St. Thomas which were originally scheduled for Tuesday, April 1 have been postponed. The baseball games have been rescheduled for Sunday, April 6 at 1 pm, while the softball games have been rescheduled for Tuesday, April 8 at 4 pm.

Baseball Loses Twice To Southern Maine

The Gustavus baseball team wrapped up its spring break trip to Chandler, Arizona with two losses to Southern Maine. The Gusties, who lost game one 9-1 and game two 10-1, were only able to register five hits in 14 innings in the two games. Gustavus is now 8-8 on the season. The team finished its spring break trip with a record of 4-6.

Baseball Splits Doubleheader With MIT, Winning Game One 4-1, Losing Game Two 14-4

The Gustavus baseball team recorded another doubleheader split, its fourth in seven doubleheaders this season. The Gusties beat MIT 4-1 in game one behind the strong pitching of Derek Eddie, and then lost game two 14-4. Gustavus is now 8-6 on the season and 4-4 on their spring break trip to Chandler, Arizona. The team will wrap up its trip with a doubleheader against Southern Maine on Wednesday morning.

Baseball Team Sweeps Middlebury, Moves to 6-4 On The Season

The Gustavus baseball team claimed a doubleheader sweep over Middlebury College in Chandler, Arizona on Saturday afternoon. The Gusties, who won both games with seventh inning rallies, claimed game one by the score of 8-7 and game two by the score of 7-5. Gustavus, which is now 6-4 overall and 2-2 on their spring break trip to Arizona, will face Williams College of Massachusetts in a doubleheader on Monday, March 24 at 9:30 am (Mountain Time).

Baseball Team Drops Two To Keene State In Arizona

The Gustavus baseball team opened spring break in Chandler, Arizona with back-to-back losses to Keene State College of New Hampshire. The Gusties dropped game one by the score of 5-4 and game two by the score of 9-3. Pat Siering had a big day at the plate for Gustavus as he went 5-for-6 with a triple and 3 RBI. The Gusties, who are now 4-4 on the season, will play Middlebury College tomorrow (Saturday) at 12:00 pm (Mountain Time).

Baseball Team Splits Doubleheader With Luther at Metrodome

The Gustavus baseball team completed its six-game schedule in the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome by splitting two games with Luther on Wednesday night. The Gusties, who are now 4-2 on the season, won the first game by the score of 2-1, but then dropped the second game 6-0. Dave Wold was the winning pitcher for Gustavus in game one, while Chad Schnettler picked up the save. The Gusties leave Thursday, March 20 for 10 games in Chandler, Arizona over Spring Break.

The Gustavus baseball team returns eight field starters, three starting pitchers, and its top two relievers from a team that finished 21-15 overall and placed fourth in the MIAC with a record of 14-6 last year. In addition, three of those returning field starters were All-Conference selections including shortstop Mike DesLauriers, second baseman Nate Ruff, and first baseman Pat Siering.

Outfielder Tony Konicek, a two-time first-team NCAA Division III All-American from Gustavus Adolphus College in Saint Peter, Minn., has signed a 2008 contract with the Evansville (Indiana) Otters of the Frontier League.
