Women’s Golf Defeats Wartburg in Dual Match

The Gustavus women’s golf team took a big step towards earning a berth in the NCAA Championship with a 655-671 win over Wartburg College in a dual meet held at LeSueur Country Club on Friday and Saturday. Kimbra Kosak (79-84) of Gustavus and Megan Cress (82-81) of Wartburg tied for medalist honors.

The Gustavus men’s golf team started its spring season with a strong second place finish at the Buena Vista Invitational in Storm Lake, Iowa. The Gusties posted a team score of 296-321–617 to finish seven shots behind champion Nebraska Wesleyan (295-315 — 610). Jordan Hawkinson finished fifth individually with a score of 75-77 — 152.

The Gustavus men’s tennis team defeated Kalamazoo College 6-1 in a dual match played in Milwaukee, Wis., on Saturday afternoon. The Gusties won two of three doubles matches and five of six singles matches. Gustavus is rated #1 nationally, while Kalamazoo is ranked #11.

Competition will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the men’s javelin and shot put and the women’s hammer throw. Running events will begin at approximately 12:30 p.m.

Gustavus senior golfer Kelli Groff was named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Golfer of the Week after finishing first at the Wartburg Invitational with a 36-hole score of 74-79–153. Groff also helped the Gusties to the team title at the 11-team invitational tournament.
