Swimming Competes in Day One of MN Challenge

The Gustavus women’s and men’s swimming teams competed against a field of Division I opponents in the first events of MN Challenge.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s and men’s swimming teams competed against a field of Division I opponents in the first events of MN Challenge.

Ellen Hofstede placed fourth overall in the 100 Fly overall and first out of Division III competitors touching the wall at 59.27, and in the in the 50 Free (24.10). Marit Isaacson ranked second in the 200 IM with a 2:12.24. Additionally, Lucy Peterson took fifth in the 50 Free (24.10).

Dane Hudson also ranked fourth in the 100 Fly behind three U of M opponents with a 51.46, while Andrew Becker rounded out the top five (52.83). Becker also placed second in the 50 Free later in the night (21:01). Kieran Ripken and Chad Haugstad had top five finishes in the 100 Breaststroke with Ripken clocking in at 59.63 and Haugstad at 59.98. Ripken kept the momentum going, placing fourth in the 50 Free (21.53).

Callen Zemek led off for the Gusties placing third in the 500 Free with a time of 4:43.24 while Matt Strom and Adam Thornberg also placed in the top five; Strom at 4:43.71 and Thornberg at 4:44.88. Thornberg also placed fifth in the 200 IM at 1:57.61.

The Gusties compete in day two of MN Challenge beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
