THE SERIES

Friday night’s game marks the 26th meeting between the Gusties and Yellowjackets. Gustavus leads the all-time series 17-4-4. The Gusties have won the last five games, with the most recent being a 4-0 victory in Saint Peter on Jan. 15, 2019. UW-Superior’s last win in the series came on Nov. 8, 2013.

Gustavus has been off since Dec. 13, 2019, when it defeated No. 7 UW-River Falls 3-1. The team spent a week in Europe playing exhibition games against the Austria National Team and Kladno, Czech Republic, winning 3-2 and 2-0, respectively. The Gusties average 2.8 goals and 33.2 shots per game. Gustavus remains perfect on the power kill, shutting down all 20 attempts by its opponents. Kristina Press has a team leading 10 points, with seven goals and three assists. Molly McHugh is second on the team with nine points, coming from three goals and six assists. The Gusties have used three goaltenders evenly throughout the season. Emilia Helms-Leslie has a MIAC leading 0.50 goals against average and .959 save percentage. Katie McCoy leads the group with 87 saves and is second in the conference with a .946 save percentage. Francesca Gerardi contributes a 1.33 goals against average and a .933 save percentage.

SCOUTING THE YELLOWJACKETS

UW-Superior comes into Friday’s contest riding a five game winning streak. It’s most reason victory was a 5-4 decision over St. Catherine on Dec. 14, 2019. The Yellowjackets have been solid all year, tying No. 4 Hamline and suffering their lone loss in overtime to No. 8 UW-Eau Claire. As a team, UW-Superior averages 4.2 goals and 33.9 shots per game. The Jackets are 2-30 on the power play and have only allowed five goals in 54 penalty kills. Kaleigh Martinson is the top point scorer for the Yellowjackets with 11 goals and two assists. Amanda Sergent is next with five goals and five assists. Catherine Johnson has spent the most time in net, with a 1.55 goals against average, .935 save percentage, and a record of 5-1-1.
