SAINT PETER, Minn. – No. 6 Gustavus women’s hockey faces off against Augsburg this weekend for a MIAC home-home series. The Gusties enter the weekend 5-0-0 overall and 2-0-0 in the MIAC, while the Auggies are 3-1-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the league. Friday’s game in Minneapolis begins at 7 p.m. and Saturday’s game in Saint Peter is at 2 p.m.

SCOUTING THE GUSTIES: Gustavus, ranked No. 6 in the latest USCHO.com poll, is off to a hot start by winning its first five games and outscoring opponents 15-2. The Gusties started the MIAC season with a sweep over St. Kate’s last weekend, winning 5-0 on the road followed by a 2-1 win at Don Roberts Ice Rink. Through five games this season, the Gusties average 3.0 goals and 34.0 shots per game and allow 0.4 goal and 13.8 shots. On special teams, the Gusties are 5-for-17 (.294) on the power play and have killed off all eight opponent skater-advantages. Clara Billings is the team’s leading point-scorer with four goals and one assist. Kristina Press is right behind with three goals and an assist. Molly McHugh leads the squad with four assists. Gustavus has used a three-goalie approach to start the year. Francesca Gerardi and Emilia Helms-Leslie have identical marks of 0.50 goals against, .960 save percentage, and 2-0 record. Katie McCoy is 1-0 after a 19-save, shutout performance against UW-Eau Claire.
SCOUTING THE AUGGIES: Augsburg started its season with a sweep over St. Scholastica and followed with a split against Hamline last weekend. The Auggies average 2.2 goals and 27.5 shots per game, and allow 3.0 goal and 26.0 shots. They are just 1-for-13 on the power play but have killed off 15-of-17 opponent advantages. Emily Ach (2g, 1a), Katie Flynn (1g, 2a), and Bridget Wagner (1g, 2a) lead the offense with three points apiece. Abby Bollig has spent the most time between the pipes with a 2.57 goals against average and .893 save percentage in two starts.
