JORDAN, Minn. – After one round of play at the MIAC Championships, the No. 25-ranked Gustavus men’s golf team leads the field with a score of 301. The Gusties lead by four strokes over Concordia, Saint John’s, and St. Thomas, who are all tied at 305.
Max Ullan (Jr., Blaine) is tied for the lead after carding a one-over 73. Ullan, who tallied an eagle on the par-four second hole, shares the top of the leaderboard with Concordia’s Gage Stromme. Jacob Pedersen (So., Minnetonka), who posted three birdies, is one stroke back and tied for third at 74. Ben Hauge (Sr., Ramsey) and Carter Czichotzki (Jr., Moorhead) each posted 77 and are tied for 11th.
“It was a good start for the guys today,” Head Coach Scott Moe said. “A lot of golf left to be played. Great competition, five teams within five shots of the lead. We wanted to be in a better position we were last year after day one, and the guys accomplish that goal. The golf course played really tough for most of the day as the wind was howling pretty good. A couple of holes we need to execute a little bit better tomorrow, but I think we have a great game plan in place for tomorrow. I was very pleased with how we battled throughout the round and the guys kept great composure for the entire day.”
The second and third rounds of the MIAC Championships will be played Monday at Ridges at Sand Creek, starting at 8 a.m.
