The Gustavus women’s golf team will compete in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships on October 9-10 at Willinger’s Golf Club in Northfield, Minn. The Gusties are in search of their first MIAC title after a third place finish in 2003 and a second place finish in 2002.
The Gustavus women’s golf team opened the fall season by winning three out of its four events. In final preparation for the MIAC Championships, the Gusties competed in the Saint Benedict Invitational on October 2-3. Head coach Scott Moe’s squad rallied with a 341 team score on the second day of competition, the lowest 18-hole team score in the event, to finish in tie for second place five strokes behind first place.
Kelsey Getz (SR, Mendota Heights, Minn.), Kelli Groff (JR, Bloomington, Minn.), Stephanie Polzin (SR, Mankato, Minn.), Alana Reetz (JR, Milaca, Minn.), Erin Schliep (JR, Rochester, Minn.) and Breanne Staples (SO, Windom, Minn.) will compete in the conference championships for Gustavus. Groff and Staples won medalist honors this fall. Groff won the Gustavus Small College Invitational with a score of 160 and Breanna Staples won the Saint Benedict Invitational with a score of 164.
The competition will begin on Saturday, October 9 at 11:30am. Sunday’s tee times will begin at 11:30am with the teams grouped by Saturday’s scores. Higher teams off first, followed by lower teams last.
