SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s hockey team is set to take on Saint Mary’s this weekend in a home-home series. Friday’s game in Winona, Minn. begins at 7 p.m. and Saturday’s game at Don Roberts Ice Rink starts at 7:05 p.m. The Gusties enter the series 6-12-1 overall and 3-6-1 in the MIAC, while the Cardinals are 3-11-3 overall and 2-4-2 in the league.

SCOUTING THE GUSTIES
Gustavus is aiming to stay in playoff contention this weekend sitting fifth in the MIAC standings with a series in hand over its opponent Saint Mary’s. The Gusties are coming off a series split with Augsburg last weekend, losing 4-2 Friday and winning 3-1 Saturday. Through 19 games, the Gusties average 2.1 goals and allow 2.3 per game. They also average 33.9 shots, which is most in the MIAC. Special teams are a strength with the Black and Gold killing off a conference-leading 56-of-62 penalties for a .903 percentage. On the power play, the Gusties are 11-for-64 (.172). Evan Erickson (7g, 6a) and Caleb Anderson (4g, 9a) lead the offense with 13 points apiece. Colton Schmidt is next with 10 points on four goals and six assists. In goal, Chris Amsden boasts a 2.34 goals against average and a .913 save percentage in 11 starts. Robbie Goor has made eight starts with a 2.26 goals against average and a .926 save percentage.
SCOUTING THE CARDINALS
Saint Mary’s is 1-2 in its last three games, most recently losing 4-2 against UW-Stout last Thursday. The Cardinals average 2.65 goals and allow 3.06 per game while taking 28.4 shots per game. On the power play they are 13-for-73 (.178) and have killed off 56-of-68 penalties (.824). Tommy Stang leads the offense with 14 points on seven goals and seven assists. Tyson Liverance (6g, 6a) and Jack Stang (3g, 9a) each have 12 points. Nick Nast has seen the most time between the pipes with a 3.03 goals against average and a .894 save percentage in 11 starts.
