Three Gusties Earn Men’s Soccer All-MIAC, Flintham Coach of the Year

Three Gustavus men’s soccer players were named MIAC All-Conference Friday morning, another four were tabbed honorable mention, and first-year coach Tudor Flintham was named Coach of the Year. Forwards Matt Gibbons (So., Minneapolis, Minn.) and Arthur Parens (Sr., Wayzata, Minn.), and midfielder Scott Heinen (So., Aurora, Ill.) represent Gustavus on the All-MIAC Team.

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Three Gustavus men’s soccer players were named MIAC All-Conference Friday morning, another four were tabbed honorable mention, and first-year coach Tudor Flintham was named Co-Coach of the Year. Forwards Matt Gibbons (So., Minneapolis, Minn.) and Arthur Parens (Sr., Wayzata, Minn.), and midfielder Scott Heinen (So., Aurora, Ill.) represent Gustavus on the All-MIAC Team.

In his first year as head coach, Flintham earns the fifth MIAC Coach of the Year honor by a Gustavus coach in program history after leading the Gusties to their record 15th MIAC regular season championship with an 8-1-1 record. Flintham has also guided the Gusties to their 12th NCAA tournament appearance, which kicks off at 5:30 p.m. Saturday against Dominican (Ill.) in Decorah, Iowa. Flintham has coached three All-Conference players and one CoSIDA Academic All-District student-athlete in his first season at the helm.

Gibbons earns his first All-Conference honor after leading the league with 25 points on seven goals and 11 assists. Gibbons also leads the conference with 62 shots and tallied four game-winning goals. He was instrumental in the game-winning goal to clinch the MIAC championship at Macalester with a free kick assist.

Parens garners his third consecutive All-Conference honor, becoming the first Gustavus player to do so since Zach Brown and David Lilly (2012-14). Parens has a team-leading 10 goals this season, which ranks second in the MIAC. He also has three game-winning goals, including the MIAC championship clincher.

Heinen receives his first All-Conference nod after posting three goals and five assists for 11 points. He also has one game-winning goal.

David Almaer (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.), Daniel Barnes (Sr., Lund, Sweden), Luke Laurich (Jr., Batavia, Ill.), and Anders Severson (Sr., Woodbury, Minn.) were named honorable mention.
