BLAINE, Minn. – Despite posting a 42-23 advantage in shots Sunday, the Gustavus men’s hockey team lost 3-0 to Concordia at the MIAC Showcase at the Schwan Super Rink. The Gusties drop to 1-1 overall as the Cobbers improve to 2-0.
All three Concordia goals came in the second period off the stick of Mario Bianchi. The Cobbers’ top line proved to be the difference on the score sheet.
Robbie Goor (So., Anoka, Minn.) suffered the loss after making 20 saves. Both teams were 0-2 on the power play. Along with shots, the Gusties also doubled up the Cobbers on the dots, winning 40-of-59 faceoffs.
Gustavus begins MIAC play next weekend in a home-home series against St. Olaf. Friday night at 7:05 p.m. is the home opener for the Gusties at Don Roberts Ice Rink, while Saturday’s game in Northfield starts at 7:30 p.m.
