Women’s Cross Country Places Fourth at Roy Griak Invite

The Gustavus women’s cross country team placed fourth at the Roy Griak Invitational on Saturday in St. Paul, Minn. Nichole Petersen finished in ninth place with a time of 23:26 to lead the Gusties.

The 25th ranked Gustavus women’s cross country team traveled to Falcon Heights, Minn. to participate in the 19th Annual Roy Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota. The Gusties compiled 128 team points to finish in fourth place out of 24 teams.

Nichole Petersen led the Gusties by finishing in ninth place with a time of 23:26. Head coach Jed Friedrich was pleased with Petersen’s performance. “It’s great to see her consistently running near the top,” Friedrich commmented. Petersen has finished in the top spot for Gustavus in all three races this season.

Val Berquam placed second on the team and 26th overall with a time of 24:21. It is Berquam’s first season in cross country and Coach Friedrich is pleased with her progress. “In her first year of cross country, she is still working on strategy and pacing so she should be really tough at the end of the season. She has tremendous potential in cross country.”

The Gusties will be back in action next Saturday in Eau Claire, Wisc. Gustavus will compete in the NCAA Pre-National Meet hosted by UW-Eau Claire.
