INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The National Collegiate Athletic Association announced the team and individual competitors for its Women’s National Collegiate Gymnastics Championships and Gustavus’s Amanda Malo (Jr., Greenwood, Minn.) has been selected as an alternate in the all-around competition at the Minneapolis regional, which will take place 4 p.m. April 7 at the University of Minnesota.

Malo received the second alternate selection, but was moved to the first after the originally named alternate declined due to injury. The four all-around competitors are Lisa O’Donnell of UW-Whitewater, Tori Erickson of UW-Eau Clarie, Brooke Terry of UW-Stout, and Samantha Wiekamp of UW-La Crosse. If any of those gymnasts drop out prior to the competition, Malo will participate in the all-around. Malo will practice the day before the regional meet and will be notified that night if any of the four all-around competitors cannot compete.

“Amanda being named the alternate for DI regionals is an incredible honor and opportunity,” Head Coach Aryn DeGrood said. “It is another accolade for an individual who works harder than anyone in our program to succeed. She’s given everything she has to this team and we could not be more excited for this honor for her. We are looking forward to the experience but also are excited to support the other DIII participants and wish them the best. As the alternate, she is ready to go if the need arises. This is not only a big honor for her and our program but also DIII gymnastics. It shows just how far the WIAC has come.”
