BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its baseball players of the week Monday afternoon, with first-year infielder Cole Pengilly (Le Sueur, Minn.) earning the player of the week accolade.
The Gustie baseball squad is off to a 2-3 start to their 2018 campaign, taking two splits and a Sunday loss down in Tucson, Ariz.
Pengilly paced the Black and Gold offense while starting each game at shortstop. In five games over the weekend, he logged eight hits in 18 at bats, including a three-run walk-off home run. Pengilly batted .444 for the week, belting the game-winning homer in a 6-3 win against Carthage on Saturday and finishing the weekend with a pair of extra-base knocks in a five-hit game against Concordia (Neb.) on Sunday.
This afternoon, Gustavus concludes its Arizona trip with a doubleheader versus North Central University. Game one is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start.
