Pengilly Signs Professional Baseball Contract with Sioux Falls

Recent Gustavus graduate Cole Pengilly (Le Sueur, Minn.) signed a rookie contract with the Sioux Falls Canaries of the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball on Tuesday. Pengilly is the second Gustie in the past three years to sign a professional baseball contract as Adam Stockwell ’19 also played for the Canaries in 2019.

Thelen’s Ninth Inning Heroics Secures Baseball Sweep at Bethel

Trailing by a run and down to the last out with nobody on base, Bryce Novak (So, Cleveland) kept the game alive with a single and Dalton Thelen (Jr., Cold Spring) ensued with a clutch two-run homer to give the Gustavus baseball team a 5-4 lead at Bethel in the ninth inning, which held for a final to secure the doubleheader sweep.

Baseball 2020 Season Preview

The defending MIAC regular season champion Gustavus baseball team will begin its 2020 season Thursday when it begins play at the Tucson Invite. The Gusties finished 2019 25-13 overall and 14-6 in the MIAC, but lost a strong class of seven seniors to graduation.

Baseball Garners Four All-MIAC Honors, Baker Named Coach of the Year

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its 2019 baseball awards Tuesday and five Gusties were recognized. Sam Archer (Sr. Zimmerman, Minn.), Adam Stockwell (Sr., Apple Valley, Minn.), Cole Pengilly (So., Le Sueur, Minn.), and Matt Berkner (Sr., Sleepy Eye, Minn.) were named All-Conference, while Brad Baker was selected as the Jim Dimick Coach of the Year.

The Gustavus baseball team Thursday claimed its first MIAC sweep of the season with a pair of victories over Concordia. Cole Pengilly (So., Le Sueur, Minn.) hit a two-run walkoff home run in game one and Charlie Hutchinson (So., Maple Grove, Minn.) tossed a complete game four-hitter in game two for the sweep.

Baseball Set to Take on Saint John’s Tuesday

The Gustavus baseball team will travel to Collegeville, Minn. 0n Tuesday for a doubleheader with a 2:30 p.m. start time versus Saint John's. The Gusties enter the contests with a 11-7 overall mark and 2-2 record in the MIAC while the Johnnies are 18-7 overall and 3-3 in the league.

The Gustavus baseball team will play host to Bethel on Saturday for MIAC doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. The Gusties enter the contests 10-6 overall and 1-1 in MIAC play while the Royals are 10-7 overall and 2-2 in conference.

Baseball Splits Third Consecutive Doubleheader

The Gustavus baseball team Wednesday split its third consecutive doubleheader, beating Northwestern-St. Paul 3-0 in game one, followed by a 5-3 loss in game two. The Gusties are now 10-6 overall and the Eagles are 11-7.
