Men’s Swim & Dive Remains In Second After Day Two At MIAC Championships

After four sessions and two days at the MIAC Championships, the Gustavus men’s swim & dive team remains in second place with 488 points behind St. Thomas at 583 and ahead of Saint John’s at 275.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – After four sessions and two days at the MIAC Championships, the Gustavus men’s swim & dive team remains in second place with 488 points behind St. Thomas at 583 and ahead of Saint John’s at 275.

Tanner Sonnek (Jr., North Mankato, Minn.) cemented his name as one of the best breaststrokers in the history of the MIAC, setting a new conference meet and school record time of 54.79 in the 100 breaststroke to defend his title from last year as well as break his own record.

Sonnek was also a part of the All-Conference second place 200 medley relay team. Josh Muntifering (Fy., Buffalo, Minn.), Nolan Larson (Fy., West Des Moines, Iowa), and Andrew Peters (Jr., Montevideo, Minn.) teamed with Sonnek to touch the wall in 1:32.70. The 800 free relay team of Larson, Zach Dawson (So., Eagan, Minn.), Muntifering, and Peters also took second and earned All-Conference with a time of 6:53.77.

Individual All-Conference honors were captured by Muntifering and Dawson in the 400 IM, finishing second and third, respectively, with times of 4:05.13 and 4:09.27. And Larson took second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:42.12 to earn All-MIAC.

The MIAC Championships conclude tomorrow with sessions at 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.
