Track & Field To Compete At Saint John’s Invitational Saturday

LAST TIME OUT

The Gustavus men’s and women’s track & field both took ninth place at the Ted Nelson Classic at Minnesota State Mankato last Saturday. 

The Gustie men scored 15 team points, taking ninth place of 15 teams. Taylor Rooney (Fy., Andover, Minn.) and Michael Hensch (Jr., North Branch, Minn.) led the way for the Gusties, accounting for more than half of the team point total.

Rooney continued to perform well in the 60-meter hurdles, turning in a season-best time of 8.23 for a third place finish – which also ranks eighth in Division III. Hensch scored points in both the shot put and weight throw. His 51-11.75 shot put throw was good for fourth place, while his 54-8.75 weight throw was eighth best.

The Gustie women took ninth of 14 teams scoring 14.5 points. Megan Hill (So., Denver, Colo.) turned in the top finish for the Gusties, coming in third place for six team points in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:43.05.  

Three other Gusties scored points, individually. In the 1,000-meter run, Tierney Winter (So., Waterville, Minn.) came in sixth place with a time of 3:06.92. In the 800-meter run, Abbie Schnabel (Jr., Hamburg, Minn.) posted a time of 2:23.13 good for seventh place. Finally, Alex Anderson (So., Sioux Falls, S.D.) came in seventh in the high jump with a leap of 5-2.25.
