JORDAN, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s golf team concluded its fall season Monday at the MIAC Championships, played at Ridges at Sand Creek, and finished in fourth place with a score of 301-307-295-903 (+39). Alec Aunan (Sr., Rock Island, Ill.) earned co-medalist honors after carding a 72-74-73-219, garnering the program’s 25th MIAC individual championship.

St. Thomas claimed the team title after jumping way out in front in the first round, finishing with a 283-306-299-888. Saint John’s took second at 894 and Augsburg took third at 896. Brett Buckingham of Augsburg shared medalist honors with Aunan, shooting a 71-76-72-219.

“Our conference continues to get stronger every year,” Head Coach Scott Moe said. “Hats off to St. Thomas, when they fired a five-under score the first day, teams were trying to play catch-up.”

Chris Captain (Sr., Rochester, Minn.), the 2014 MIAC Champion, earned All-Championship Team honors for the third time by tying for fourth place with a 73-75-73-221. Ben Hauge (So., Ramsey, Minn.) was one of three golfers to shoot under par in the third round, finishing in a tie for 16th with a 77-80-71-228. First-years Carter Czichotzki (Moorhead, Minn.) and Max Ullan (Blaine, Minn.) tied for 33rd with scores of 79-79-79-237 and 80-79-78-237, respectively.

“We played pretty good today as a team,” Moe said. “Chris and Al again played exceptional golf. Both were very steady, making a lot of pars, and having a number of good birdie opportunities. That was their game plan and they executed perfectly. It’s awesome to have two conference champions in your lineup. Can’t say enough about how competitive Chris and Alec are and what they mean to our program. I’m very happy they both had great finishes this year at the conference championship.”

The Gusties will continue play this spring with the schedule to be released in the near future.
