ST. PETER, Minn. – The No. 20 Gustavus men’s golf team is set to compete in the NCAA Division III Preview on Sunday and Monday, held at Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C. The nationally-ranked field includes No. 1 Texas-Tyler, No. 2 Wittenberg, No. 3 Methodist, No. 4 Guilford, No. 5 Huntingdon, No. 6 Greensboro, No. 7 Emory, No. 9 Illinois Wesleyan, No. 11 Oglethorpe, No. 12 Mary Hardin-Baylor, No. 14 LaGrange, No. 15 Washington & Lee, No. 17 Berry, No. 18 Concordia-Texas, No. 20 Gustavus, No. 23 Christopher Newport, No. 25 Sewanee, and Transylvania (RV). Last season the Gusties took 13th of 18 at the NCAA Preview.
The Gustavus top-five includes Alec Aunan (Sr., Rock Island, Ill.), Ben Hauge (So., Ramsey, Minn.), Chris Captain (Sr., Rochester, Minn.), Joe Foley (So., East Gull Lake, Minn.), and Carter Czichotzki (Fy., Moorhead, Minn.). Aunan leads the team with two top-10 finishes and a 73.8-stroke average, which ranks fifth in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Hauge has been the No. 2 golfer with a 74.5-stroke average, which is 10th in the league.
The remaining Gustavus roster – Tom Carlson (So., Plymouth, Minn.), Jordan Miller (Jr., Harmony, Minn.) and Max Ullan (Fy., Blaine, Minn.) – will compete as individuals at the Twin Cities Classic this weekend, which takes place at Elk River Country Club (Saturday), The Links at Northfolk (Sunday), and Le Sueur Country Club (Monday).
