ST. PETER, Minn. – On a day full of celebrations, from the life of legendary coach Don Roberts to 75 seasons of Gustavus hockey, the Gusties came up just short in a 2-1 loss to No. 10-ranked Augsburg on Saturday evening. The defeat drops to the Gusties to 1-6-1 overall and 0-4 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, but takes nothing away from an amazing day full of amazing stories shard by Gustavus hockey alumni and friends.

After a scoreless first period where Augsburg outshot the Gusties 11-7, the visitors were able to light the lamp at the 2:24 mark of the second period. Halfway through the second frame, Gustavus netted the equalizer as Evan Erickson (So., Woodbury, Minn.) tallied his team leading fourth goal of the season, assisted by Ross Kovacs (Sr., Dickinson, N.D.). But the Auggies had an answer less than a minute later, which proved to be the game winner. Neither team could find the net in the third period and the visitors escaped with a narrow one-goal victory.

Chris Amsden (So., St. Peter, Minn.) suffered the loss after making 27 saves.

Gustavus has the Thanksgiving weekend off and returns to the ice Dec. 1 and 3 for an away-home series against Saint John’s.
