ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus College women’s golf team opens its spring season on Saturday when it travels to Peoria, Ariz. for the George Fox Invitational being played at The Lakes Course. The Gusties took seventh place at last year’s tournament, which is known for bringing in some of the best Division III squads from around the country, including six teams within the nation’s top-30.
“Getting the chance to play against some of the top teams in the country really helps set the tone for the spring,” said Coach Scott Moe. “The women have been working hard in the offseason and this will be a good test to see how much we’ve been able to accomplish – we want to set the bar high and playing against top teams is the best way to do that I think. It’s a good, fair golf course and George Fox does a great job of hosting the event. It’s a great field, and I’m looking forward to seeing how the team responds.”
No. 3 George Fox University, No. 6 University of Redlands, No. 9 University of Texas at Tyler, No. 20 Gustavus, No. 25 Schreiner University, and No. 26 Trinity University will each be competing in this year’s tournament, along with squads from Olivet College and Saint Mary’s College at Notre Dame. The two-day event runs Saturday afternoon through Sunday.
