Peoria, Ariz. – After combining for a team score of 320 (+36) yesterday, the Gustavus Adolphus women’s golf team came back to post a 317 (+33) on Sunday to take seventh place in the George Fox Westbrook Invitational. The Gusties’ total score of 637 was just three strokes behind sixth place Schreiner University. Host George Fox University won the tournament with a total score of 584.
“Today was a better day overall,” said head coach Scott Moe. “We still need to do a better job of finishing our rounds and not leaving shots out there coming down the stretch.”
Mae Meierhenry (So., Sioux Falls, S.D.) led Gustavus on the tournament’s second day with a score of 78 (+7). McKenzie Swenson (Fy., St. Louis Park, Minn.) and Jordan Drenttel (Sr., Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) followed her by posting scores of 80 (+8). Overall, Meierhenry and Swenson led Gustavus by tying for 28th place with totals of 159 over the course of the tournament.
“The tournament was a great experience competing against some of the best teams in the country,” said Moe. “I’m looking forward to working on some specifics when we return and during spring break.”
Gustavus will be back in action again on April 3 when they travel to Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida for a dual against Flagler College.
