Playing in his final home event of his tremendous four-year career, Gustavus senior Tyler McMorrow (St. Cloud, Minn./Cathedral) certainly found a way to finish in style. The Gustie standout was tremendous over the three-day, 54-hole Bobby Krig Invitational, hosted by Gustavus in Le Sueur and Jordan, Minn., as he shot 75 or better in each of the three rounds to claim individual medalist honors and lead his team to a top-five finish. For his performance, McMorrow was named the MIAC Men’s Golf Athlete-of-the-Week.

McMorrow bested a field of 85 individuals with his three-day total of 221, as he finished 9-over-par for the 54-hole, three-day invite. He opened with a 72 over the first 18 holes, shot a 75 over the second 18 and completed his victory with a score of 74 over the tournament’s final round. McMorrow won a close battle, holding off the runner-up by a single stroke, and the third-place finisher by two shots. In a meet that featured 10 MIAC teams and a pair of Division II foes, McMorrow helped the Gusties finish fifth with a three-day total of 932 (306-316-310) in the 15-team field. Heading into the tournament, McMorrow was ranked fourth in the MIAC with an 18-hole scoring average of 75.4.

The Gusties and their senior star hope to finish the 2013-14 regular season in a strong fashion this weekend, as they make their final scheduled tournament appearance of the year. Gustavus will head north for the two-day Saint John’s Spring Invitational, which will be held Saturday and Sunday. Saturday’s round will be played in St. Cloud, Minn., with Sunday’s round to follow in Monticello, Minn. After that, the Gusties will wait and see if they receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championships.
