St. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s hockey team moved up two spots to a No. 13 ranking in the most recent USCHO.com Division III Men’s Poll released Monday. The Gusties also moved up to No. 14 in the D3hockey.com Men’s Top 15 Poll after being ranked No. 15 for three consecutive weeks.
Gustavus capped the 2013-14 regular season by sweeping Bethel in a home-and-home series last weekend. The Gusties skated to a 4-1 win on Friday night at Don Roberts Ice Rink, then edged the Royals 1-0 on Saturday night at the Bethel Ice Arena.
Head Coach Brett Petersen’s club heads into the postseason with an overall record of 15-6-4. The Gusties earned the No. 2 seed in the MIAC Playoffs after finishing second in the league standings with 38 points and a conference mark of 12-3-1.
The MIAC Playoffs will begin on Friday, Feb. 28 with No. 5 seed Concordia traveling to No. 4 seed St. Olaf for a 7:30 p.m. game. The winner of that game will take on MIAC Champion St. Thomas on Saturday, March 1 at 7:00 p.m. in Mendota Heights, Minn. In the other semifinal game on Saturday, Gustavus will play host to No. 3 seed Saint John’s at 7:05 p.m. in St. Peter, Minn. The two semifinal winners will advance to the championship game, which will be played the following Saturday, March 8, on the home ice of the top remaining seed. The tournament champion will receive the MIAC’s automatic bid to the 2014 NCAA Division III Men’s Hockey Tournament.
