Women’s Tennis Suffers 8-1 Loss To Redlands

Name_Sheild_sportTRAJAN_2cRedlands, Calif. – The Gustavus women’s tennis team suffered an 8-1 loss at the hands of the University of Redlands on Tuesday afternoon at Verdieck Courts.  Gustavus’ lone point in the match came from the doubles tandem of Annie Mahoney (So., Duluth, Minn.) and Sidney Dirks (Fy., St. Peter, Minn.) who defeated Madison Morton and Gabby Vasquez by a score of 8-6 at the No. 3 doubles position.  The Gusties drop to 5-2 on the season while the No. 10 Bulldogs improve to a perfect 14-0.

Following a pair losses at No. 1 doubles (8-1) and No. 2 doubles (8-3), the Gusties got on the board with a gritty 8-6 win at the No. 3 spot from Mahoney and Dirks.  From there, the Bulldogs took control, sweeping all six singles matches on their way to the 8-1 victory.

Gustavus will be back on the court Wednesday, April 3rd when it takes on Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in Claremont, Calif.
