Collins, Click Honored as MIAC Softball Pitcher and Player of the Week

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced on Monday that Betsie Collins has been named the MIAC Pitcher of the Week, while Rachael Click has been named the MIAC Player of the Week for softball. Collins and Click combined to help Gustavus post a record of 9-1 during the week and remain in the hunt for a MIAC Post-Season berth. Click was named co-player of the week along with Katy Gannon of Saint Mary’s.

Sophomore pitcher Betsie Collins (Waseca, Minn.) went 4-0 in five appearances, as the Gusties improved to 22-6 overall and 12-4 in the MIAC. Collins began the week with a two-hit, 11-strikeout performance against Macalester in a 4-0 win on Monday in which she struck out the side in the third and seventh innings. She followed up the next day with another two-hit shutout effort in a 8-0 decision against Bethel. In Sunday’s 3-0 win against Carleton, Collins had a perfect game heading into the top of the seventh inning before the Knights tallied their lone hit of the game. In her five appearances during the week, Collins compiled 39 strikeouts and just two walks as her ERA dropped from 6.31 to 3.97.

Junior shortstop Rachael Click (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) went 3-for-5 from the plate, had three RBI, and scored two runs in a series sweep of Macalester on Monday. In Tuesday’s sweep against Bethel, Click recorded four hits, five RBI, and three runs. With the five RBI against the Royals, Click moved into second place on the career RBI list at Gustavus, surpassing Molly Biehn with 102 RBI. Against Saint Benedict, Click posted nine assists and three putouts in the field, while going 5-for-7 from the plate with three runs and three RBI. During the week, Click increased her batting average 47 points, as it improved from .472 to .519.
