Men’s Cross Country Sixth At St. Olaf Invitational

Northfield, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s cross country team placed sixth in a field of 21 teams at Saturday’s St. Olaf Invitational held on the campus of St. Olaf College.  Minnesota State University, Mankato took the gold with 30 points.  The Gusties finished with 193 points and were fourth among MIAC competitors, trailing St. Olaf (second, 83 points), Carleton (fourth, 157), and Saint Mary’s (fifth, 185 points).

“It was encouraging to beat some of the MIAC schools that beat us at conference last year,” said head coach Dale Bahr.  “The guys are showing some good signs.  All of the little things we have been doing are paying off.”

With just one runner finishing in the top 30, it was a true team effort to place sixth on Saturday.  Adam Lund (Sr., Burnsville, Minn.) paced the Gusties with a 16th place mark of 26:47.2, however it was consistent times under 28 minutes that pushed Gustavus to a top ten finish in the team scores.

“We had one main pack that ran a strong race,” Bahr remarked.  “We had a couple guys that ran strong races doing their own thing, but our pack looked strong.”

The Gustavus men’s cross country team will have next weekend off before traveling to Minnetrista, Minn., for the St. Thomas/Crown College Invitational on Friday, September 28.
