St. Paul – Gustavus Adolphus women’s golfer Sam Falk (So., Glenwood, Minn.) has been named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Golf Athlete-of-the-Week following her performance at the season-opening Georgianni Memorial Invitational held over the weekend in Eau Claire, Wis.
A team captain in her second year wearing the Three Crowns, Falk led the Gusties with a third place finish after shooting two-day total 155 (+10). She fired a 75 (+3) on day one and an 81 (+7) on day two to earn a place on the podium for the second time in her career.
Gustavus fired back-to-back 324s to finish the tournament in second place with a team total of 648 (+67). The Gusties were bested by Washington University (Mo.) who took the meet by two strokes with a 646 (+66).
It is a strong start for Falk, who enters the season as Gustavus’ top returner from a team that placed 11th at the NCAA Championships in the spring. Last year’s MIAC Co-Rookie-of-the-Year averaged an 81.0 (+9) on the season. She placed third at the MIAC Championships and was also a member a member of the National Golf Coaches Association All-Midwest Region Team.
Sam Falk and the rest of the Gustavus women’s golf team will be back on the course this weekend when it competes at the Wartburg Invitational held Sept. 8-9 at Centennial Oaks Country Club.
