Mike Maynard named MIAC Swimmer of the Week

Gustavus Adolphus College senior, Mike Maynard (Saint Paul, MN), was named the MIAC Swimmer of the Week for January 26-February 1. Maynard won both the 100 and 200 backstroke to help lead the Gusties past Saint John’s on Saturday, January 31.

Gustavus Adolphus College senior Mike Maynard (Saint Paul, Minn.) was named the MIAC Swimmer of the Week for January 26-February 1. Maynard, a 2000 Woodbury High School graduate, won both the 100 and 200 backstroke to help lead the Gusties past Saint John’s at the Lund Center Natatorium in St. Peter, Minnesota this past weekend.

Maynard posted a time of 52.94 in the 100 backstroke which is a National “B” qualifiying time. In the 200 backstroke, he won with a time of 2:00.18. Maynard also swam the backstroke leg of the 200 medley relay, leading off with a 25.4 en route to the relay’s final time of 1:35.94 which set a new pool record.

The Gustie men wrapped up their regular season last weekend and are preparing for the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships. The MIAC Championships will be held February 12-14 at the University of Minnesota Aquatics Center. The men are in search of their third consecutive MIAC title.

Mike is the son of Cheryl and Mike Maynard of Saint Paul, Minnesota.
