The Gustavus Adolphus men’s basketball team defeated Concordia College at Memorial Auditorium in Moorhead, Minn. 72-54 Saturday afternoon. The Gusties improve to 13-4 overall and 11-1 in the MIAC, while the Cobbers fall to 11-5 overall and 8-5 in the MIAC.
Tim Brown led the Gusties in scoring with 20 points. Doug Espenson had 15 points, Phil Sowden added 13 points and Chris TeBrake contributed 12 points. The Cobbers were led by Josh Downey with 14 points and Chris Wermerson added 11 points.
The Gusties never trailed in the game and led by as many as 12 in the first half. Corcordia went into the locker room trailing by eight points (36-28) and that is the closest they would come after the intermission. The Gusties shot 54 percent (26-48) from the field, 52.9 percent (9-17) from behind the arc and 73.3 percent (11-15) from the free-throw line.
Coach Hanson’s squad win their seventh straight and are on top of the MIAC with a record of 11-1. Gustavus will be playing at home against St. Olaf Wednesday, Jan. 28. Tip off is set for 7:30pm.
