Women’s Hockey Defeats St. Olaf 6-2 and Deschneau Records her 100th Career Point Posted on January 24th, 2004 by

The Gustavus Adolphus women’s hockey team defeated St. Olaf 6-2 to complete the weekend series sweep at Don Roberts Rink in St. Peter, Minn. Gustavus improve to 11-3 overall and 8-2 in the MIAC, while St. Olaf fall to 8-6-2 overall and 6-4 in the MIAC.

The Gusties lit the lamp forty-three seconds into the second period on a short-handed goal by Andrea Peterson. Michelle Guimond found the net just thirty-nine seconds later to put the Gusties up 2-0. Katie Deschneau assisted on the goal and recorded her 100th career point. Deschneau is fourth on the all-time scoring list at Gustavus with 47 goals and 53 assists.

Josefin Pettersson made it 3-0 at 4:35 in the second period. Pettersson’s goal was assisted by Ingrid Neve and Laura Stypulkowski. The Gusties increased the lead to 4-0 on a short-handed goal by Ingrid Neve. Gustavus gave up its first goal since December 10 when Sarah Ray scored a short-handed goal for the Oles.

Pettersson added another goal in the third period (8:36) and Laura Stypulkowski made it 6-1 at 12:05. The Oles found the net again at 18:10 in the third to make it 6-2. The Gusties out shot the Oles 34-18.

Coach Carroll’s team is in second place of the MIAC with 16 points. The Gusties will play again next Saturday, Jan. 31 in a non-conference game against Colby College in Waterville, Maine.
