The Gustavus men’s golf team opened its spring season with an 11th place finish (out of 14 teams) at the Emory University Invitational played at Smoke Rise Golf Club in Stone Mountain, Georgia. The Gusties posted a 36-hole team score of 315-311–626 which was 38 shots behind tournament champion Methodist University, which finished at 297-291–588.
Gustavus was led by first year A.J. Olson, who finished in a tie for 36th at 74-81–155. Others scoring for the Gusties included junior Jordan Hawkinson (41st-tie) at 79-77–156, first year Ricky Copeland (56th-tie) at 80-79–159, junior Mark Stuckey (59th-tie) at 82-79–161, and senior Erik Tone (59th-tie) at 85-76–161.
The Gusties also had three individuals participate separate from the team. That group included senior Eric Harris, finishing in a tie for 59th at 80-81–161, junior Kyle Rohlfs, placing 63rd at 80-82–162, and junior Arie DeGrio, finishing 68th at 83-82–165.
The Gusties will host the second annual Bobby Krig Invitational April 16-17. Monday’s first round will be held at LeSueur Country Club, while Tuesday’s second round will be held at Ridges at Sand Creek near Jordan, Minn.
